So…you are in business for yourself. How cool is that? You are your own boss. You are doing what you love to do. Wait…What’s that? You’re having some problems that you didn’t anticipate? Like what?

I’m not getting enough sales
I’m not making any profits
I don’t know where my money is going
I don’t know how to market my business
I don’t know where I am going to get the money I need and things cost too much anyway
I am too preoccupied with survival to even put a plan together

If these are some of the thoughts that you have had, join the club. Most business owners, including myself, have had these thoughts at one time or another. Business owners frequently have things in their business that are pains in one way or another. These pains, much like pain in your body, are a symptom of something wrong. It may be a lack of planning, inadequate funding, ineffective marketing and/or sales strategy, poor cash flow, less then advantageous vendor contracts, inefficient employees or outdated infrastructure, and you are so busy putting out fires on a day to day basis that you don’t have the time to attack the underlying issues that causing all of this pain. Maybe you could hire someone to help you, but who?

A new employee? Maybe, but finding the right person with the right skill sets can be difficult depending on where you are located, and someone with the experience to really help will be expensive, and honestly, if you could just get back on track you could handle it. And remember this…employees want to stay employed. They may or may not give you the kind of straight forward answers you need.

What about a consultant? Hey…there’s an idea. You can find consultants who are specialists in almost everything these days. The problem is they are really expensive, like $200 and up an hour, and they want to sign you up to a long contract or retainer. That would bite further into what little cash you have and not really solve all your problems. They will come in and tell you that they can fix your business and what you are left with is a bunch of boiler plate recommendations on how to improve your business with no real concrete implementation plans. Heck, anyone can come in and give you their opinion on what you should be doing but it’s not their business or their money. You probably have enough people doing that already anyway. And another thing…a consultants first job is to keep you as a client. They too may or may not have your best interests at heart.

And besides…you probably already know what needs to be done…what you really need is a solid, cost effective action plan to get your unique problems solved once and for all.

But…who can you trust to help without making the problems you already have worse?

It’s not like working for someone else where at the end of the day you get to go home and forget about work for a little while. The business follows you home, it dominates your thoughts, it wakes you up in the middle of the night to remind you of all the problems you are having. How do I know? Been there, done that. I have woken up at 2:30 in the morning in a cold sweat, wondering where payroll was going to come from for that week, or how I was going to get all the bills paid.

We have all heard the stats on small business. Of all of the small businesses that start each year in this country approximately 50% fail in the first year. Of those that are left, another 50% will fail in five years, and of the ones that are left only about 10% will ever make enough money to be considered successful. Pretty depressing isn’t it? We hate consultants. We hate the word consultant. We were consultants for a time…we didn’t really like being consultants either. We were good at it…really good at it…got paid a lot of money to do it, but the problem was the businesses that we were being called in to work with really couldn’t afford to pay what we were forced to charge by the company’s we were working for.

There had to be a better way.

How could we use our outside insight and years of experience to create superior results in any small business?
How could we create affordable, real world solutions that would result in more profitable businesses for our clients?
How could we become a business owners trusted adviser and business friend to help them benefit from their life’s work?

…And how could we do all that in a way that would be affordable for any business?

The answer? Do what we do best…find a solution to the problem and get it implemented…introduce a paradigm shift by creating a Virtual, Fractional, Data Driven Business Advisory firm.

So what does that mean?

First – Virtual. The problem with employees, and traditional consultants, is that most of the time they have to be at your place of business to be of any help. If they aren’t there, how do they know what’s going on? But, by using the latest in communications and computer technology and some straight forward data driven analysis tools that we have developed, we can exist in the virtual world and still help your business while reducing our overhead and passing that cost savings on to you.

Second – Fractional. Another problem with employees is that you have to pay them full time, and traditional consultants want to lock you into a contract to work on your business for a certain amount of hours each week or month. We approach things much differently. We want your business to be healthy, but we also understand that if you are having problems, you probably didn’t get to that point overnight. As a result, you are not going to solve all your problems overnight. You probably shouldn’t do that anyway. All of that change at once could do far more damage to your business then not doing anything. But, by taking a slower, more deliberate approach, and because we are leveraging technology and not trying to solve every problem that your business has overnight, we can work on many businesses at the same time. This makes our service affordable.

Third – Data Driven. Look…opinions are like elbows (or any other body part you would like to insert here)…everyone has them. Gut instinct, opinions, decisions made without hard evidence to support them are useless. They are worse than useless…they could be costing you money…lots of it. But, data driven decisions where we analyze the available data, or if need be, develop the data needed, will always win out over decisions made any other way. There is literally tons of data that exists specifically about your business if you only know where to go look for it, or how to develop it.

Finally – Business Advisory. Unlike traditional consulting firms, who want to charge you a tremendous amount of money in a very short time frame, we want to deliver a long term advisory product that is cost effective for your business.
